Renting a cloud server, what do I get?

Renting a cloud server you get a virtual server is indistinguishable from an ordinary server, which you can buy and maintain yourself, but it has several advantages. A cloud server has the entire infrastructure you need, including: processing power, storage systems, operating system images for fast setup, external IP addresses, virtual networks and routers to connect your virtual servers to each other, and a firewall. You get a user-friendly interface for remote management of your virtual architecture and servers, and a transparent billing system for accounting and cost forecasting.

With a cloud server, you get the benefits of:

- A flexible configuration that allows you to lease minimal capacity and then easily, in a few clicks, scale as needed, paying only for the actual use of resources.

- High reliability due to fault-tolerant server infrastructure deployed in special data centers, which are serviced 24 hours a day by operating personnel.

- Ease of maintenance, because you do not need a specialist for the maintenance of cloud servers with skills of scheduled maintenance of server equipment, its repair and fault identification, all the problems of "iron" will be our responsibility.

Can I change cloud server configuration during operation?

Yes, you can change cloud server configuration during operation. Cloud servers are easily scalable. It is a bit more difficult to change the type and size of the boot disk on which the virtual server is running, for that you will have to create a new disk with the right type and size based on a snapshot of your boot disk and attach it to replace the old one.

Where will the cloud servers be located?

The hardware is located in an area that is accessible to you:

- Germany, Frankfurt.

The availability area for his cloud server the customer chooses at his own discretion.

If I want to end my relationship with your company, can I collect my data and migrate to another service provider?

You have the right to use any service provider and to change service providers as you see fit. We have no moral or legal rights to restrict your choice of provider and will not prevent you from migrating.

My business is seasonal and the leased server resources sit idle most of the year, how can I save money without sacrificing business?

To cover seasonal load peaks, it is more efficient to use cloud servers than your own server fleet. Cloud servers are quick to build and easy to scale, and they won't burden you when you're idle.

How quickly will I get my cloud server after payment?

Technically providing you with access to your cloud server project is instantaneous, but if you haven't worked with us before, for security reasons our specialist may contact you to ask a few questions, this may take some time. Once you are already logged in and creating your cloud server, it takes a few minutes if you follow the "Quick Start" instructions and use the OS images we downloaded. If you want to load your own OS installation disk image, the time to create a server will increase by the time it takes to load your image into the system.

What vendors do you use to power your cloud servers?

We use equipment from Dell, HP, Arista, Juniper.

Can I rent a server from you for a few days?

Yes, you can rent a cloud server for a few days. You can also get free test access to explore our cloud services.

Are any ports on your cloud servers blocked?

We don't block ports. But after the project creation all ports are closed by default, you have to open them yourself by configuring security groups and firewall.

What tasks can PostgreSQL be used for?

PostgreSQL is a universal, open source, enterprise-level object-relational database that supports relational SQL queries and non-relational JSON. It is a very stable open source multi-platform database management system.

PostgreSQL is used in many industries, wherever large and complex databases need to be managed. It is used by such giants as Sony, Huawei, Alibaba, Instagram, Tripadvisor, Hitachi, Yandex, Skype, Reddit, Amazon Redshift, FlightAware and many others, including governmental ones.

CRM and ERP-systems, automated banking systems, statistics tracking systems with a large flow of small operations are organized on PostgreSQL: document management automation, warehousing, accounting. PostgreSQL is used for data extraction from various sources, its transformation and loading into the target system or data warehouse, data sampling and analysis, Business intelligence solutions and financial planning products.

What tasks does a PostgreSQL database management service provider undertake?

Managed Service for PostgreSQL - provides a ready-to-use PostgreSQL database management system, whose cluster uses cloud architecture for hosting.

You can focus on working with the database, enjoy all its benefits, and technical issues on the organization of the database cluster and its operation we will take care of.

Our area of responsibility includes:

  • database cluster deployment and its preliminary configuration;
  • monitoring and management of the cluster
  • scaling of the cluster;
  • ensuring high availability and fault tolerance of the database;
  • data backup;
  • ensuring data security and restricting access through authorization and encryption;
  • maintaining and repairing the infrastructure on which the cluster is hosted;
  • providing technical support and access to technical documentation on the service.

How is the backup of database clusters organized?

Full backup of the database cluster by default is performed automatically once a day between 1:00 AM and 5:00 AM GMT+4. Every 30 seconds are saved to the database cluster transaction logs, which allows you to restore the cluster state at any point in time within the backup storage period, except for the transactions of the last 30 seconds that have not yet been saved to the logs.

What restrictions does PostgreSQL place on the size of the database and its elements?

At the moment PostgreSQL has the following limitations:

  • maximum database size: no limits;
  • maximum table size: 32 Tbytes;
  • maximum record size: 1.6 Tbytes;
  • maximum field size: 1 Gbyte;
  • maximum records in a table: no restrictions;
  • maximum fields in a record: 250 - 1600, depending on field types;
  • maximum indexes in the table: no limitations.

Can a customer change the PostgreSQL DBMS configuration without creating a new cluster, for example, change the number of vCPUs or the amount of RAM?

Yes, you can increase the vCPU, RAM and disk size parameters in the control panel in a few clicks. Decreasing the above parameters is available by contacting your manager or through the ticket system.

What happens if the DBMS version is no longer supported by the developer?

If the DBMS version you are using is no longer supported by the developer, you will still have access to your data. However, in this case, the creation of new cluster nodes will not be available and other features may be restricted. The client is notified by e-mail and in his personal cabinet about automatic upgrade to the nearest supported version, about the timing of the work and availability of databases. Such upgrade will be performed even if the client has disabled automatic upgrade.

The client is notified about minor version update at least 7 days in advance, about major version update at least 1 month in advance. After receiving such notification, the customer should check the software interacting with PostgreSQL for compatibility with the new version. If necessary, the customer should take steps to ensure compatibility with the new version.

I need superuser privileges for PostgreSQL hosts, is this possible?

No, we do not provide superuser rights for cluster hosts to Managed Service for PostgreSQL customers, only PostgreSQL database administrator privileges.
